Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a specific therapeutic protocol that focuses on traumatic experiences. EMDR can help clients tremendously by taking the power away from our traumatic memories by desensitizing the emotion attached to them. EMDR can often work faster than traditional talk therapy and when done with a judicious and experienced clinician, can yield real recovery for those who are ready to do this important work.
EMDR can work well as a stand alone therapy or woven into a psychodynamic therapeutic process. EMDR is also great for those who have worked through modalities such as DBT and are now ready to take on their traumas and move towards recovery.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an empowering and non-pathologizing modality of psychotherapy that helps to heal trauma, relationships, depression, anxiety, and harmful behaviors.
IFS therapy helps to identify and integrate parts of the self which are split off and disconnected, allowing us to experience wholeness. This wholeness leads to increased vitality, well-being, and overall health. We will work with the inherent multiplicity of our inner systems to unburden exiled parts and allow protective parts to act in less extreme ways. IFS is also best utilized in tandem with psychodynamic psychotherapy and DBT.
